Welcome to alliedairborne.co.uk

Air travel is a hugely important part of our daily lives. It allows us to explore almost every area on early and in that sense makes our planet feel substantially smaller and more accessible than ever before. Aircraft is primarily used either for military or for commercial purposes (to transport the general public and cargo for example).

The RAF is the British part of the armed forces that is centred around air travel. They played a massive part in both world wars and at the time of the second world war had about 1,000,000 active personnel. After the war they played a large part in taking supplies to prisoners of war and others in need as well as in bringing soldiers home. The way that the RAF operates today is largely influenced by this period in history.

Training to be a pilot is a popular career choice and offers an exciting and rewarding professional career. Check out the Pilot Training College website if you're interested in learning. Competition is fierce and you need to be physically and mentally fit as well as academically able. There are three main ways of training: privately, sponsored or through the armed forces and these are talked about in more detail on the relevant page on this website.

Aircraft comes in many different shapes and sizes and each type is used for a different activity or purpose. The list is really exhaustive and this site aims to give an oversight of just a few.

If you are serious about a career in flying then it is always a good idea to visit a few of the training colleges so you make the right decision and find the best college for you. The location is always important. If you have to travel to one of the sites via public transport then you may need to travel quite far from the stations to the college, so think about renting a car for your stay so public transport wont fail you and make you late. Search here for Car Hire. Use National Express to book your train or bus tickets as it's usually the cheapest.
