Welcome to alliedairborne.co.uk

Air travel is a hugely important part of our daily lives. It allows us to explore almost every area on early and in that sense makes our planet feel substantially smaller and more accessible than ever before. Aircraft is primarily used either for military or for commercial purposes (to transport the general public and cargo for example).

The RAF is the British part of the armed forces that is centred around air travel. They played a massive part in both world wars and at the time of the second world war had about 1,000,000 active personnel. After the war they played a large part in taking supplies to prisoners of war and others in need as well as in bringing soldiers home. The way that the RAF operates today is largely influenced by this period in history.

Training to be a pilot is a popular career choice and offers an exciting and rewarding professional career. Competition is fierce and you need to be physically and mentally fit as well as academically able. There are three main ways of training: privately, sponsored or through the armed forces and these are talked about in more detail on the relevant page on this website.

Aircraft comes in many different shapes and sizes and each type is used for a different activity or purpose. The list is really exhaustive and this site aims to give an oversight of just a few.
